Scale Model Plans
by D. M. Livesay
This web site offers a wealth of useful plans and plan resources. Of particular interest are the indexes of model plans, 3-views (including R/C, control line, free flight, indoor and outdoor flight models) originally published in the following magazines:Air Trails
American Aircraft Modeler
Flying Models
Flying Aces
Model Builder
Model Aviation
These indexes are based upon the author's almost complete collection of these magazines from 1931 to the early 1990s. The listing represents almost every plan, 3-views, etc. published in these magazines. In addition, a separate listing of Rubber Scale Plans published in the magazines listed above is provided. These indexes are arranged alphabetically in separate files -- one for Peanut Scale Plans, and two files (A to L, and M to Z) of Rubber Scale Plans.
Finally, an index of 3-views published by the magazines is also provided.
As for free plans on this site, there are many. The author has arranged them in several categories (relatively unimportant for virtual modelers concerns). The plans are divided as follows:
Peanut Scale Plans
Golden Age
Racers
WarplanesDime (and pseudo-dime) Scale Plans
In addition to these plans, there is also a directory (located in a Yahoo! Briefcase directory) of 140+ plans. There is also another directory of completed model photos (very useful).
Overall, this is a wonderful web resource for free plans.
