Classic Airplane Models
"Real Airplanes have Round Engines!"

This is the site for the nostalgia buff who loves those radial engine classic airplanes of the 30's and 40's. The post-Lindbergh days...round engines were king. Pilots wore leather helmets, scarves, goggles and boots. Roscoe Turner designed his own "pilot's uniform." "Wrong-way" Corrigan was in the news. Amelia Earhart disappeared into history and controversy. Air travel was simpler, yet more heroic. The great depression was on its way out. Bread was a nickel a loaf. Men wore fedoras and Rosie the riveter was building "Gooney Birds."

T & D Plan Sales really got its start when Tom was building models at age 9 and designing them by age 10. His first job was designing wind-tunnel models for the U.S. Navy. Always air-minded, he served in the Air Force, studied engineering and enjoyed a career in designing airplane components, among other things.

Tom learned to fly on the GI Bill and has owned several airplanes and gliders and is currently building an RV-6 kit plane in his garage. His favorite classic airplane is the Cessna 195, although it wasn't a classic when he owned one.
