"Lockheed 10 TCA CF-TCC"
by Paul Tuttle
Set up by the Canadian government in April 1937, Trans Canada Air Lines began flights in September between Vancouver and Seattle using a Lockheed 10A twin. A domestic route network was soon established within Canada.
North Bay Airport (located in Ontario) was and is an important link between Toronto and centers to the north. Chosen by the Canadian Department of National Defense as the site for an emergency landing field in 1933, in 1937, the Department of Transport decided to build an airport on the site, and in 1938, the first federally constructed air terminal building in Canada was erected in North Bay. Trans-Canada Airlines began non-scheduled flights into North Bay in 1938, and scheduled passenger service using 10-passenger Lockheed 10-A aircraft the following year.
