Delta Air Lines DC-3 "Ship 41"
by Douglas Castleman
In the Spring of 2001 Delta Airlines re-introduced a classic airplane to its fleet. "Ship 41" [NC-28341] is a completely refurbished Douglas DC-3. This aircraft is unique as having been originally ordered by Delta from Douglas in 1940; after flying around several operators over the years, Ship 41 was returned to Delta in 1993 and lovingly restored to its current immaculate status. This beautifully restored aircraft can often be seen in the summer months on the airshow circuit across the U.S.
