A useful resource for aviation in the U.S. is the Gulf Aviation Atlas. Published by the Gulf Oil Company (Pittsburgh,PA) this large 9"x12" booklet includes: all the the air transport routes of the world shown, listing of air record holders for the previous year, and a complete listing with photos, specifications and three views with dimensions of all the aircraft built in the U.S. in the given year.
I have seen the following editions:
1931 (2nd ed.)
1933-1934 (3rd ed.)
1938 (5th ed.)I will be posting scanned images from this series soon. The 1933-1934 edition, features a greeting from Maj. Al Williams, then head of Gulf Oil Aviation Department.
